The Young Cricketers section at St. Margaretsbury Cricket Club has been highly successful
over the years and has produced a number of talented players who now grace the senior XI's,
including 9 players who regularly play 1st XI cricket. Many of these young players have
also been rewarded with county and district selection.
St.Margaretsbury sides have been regularly contesting the Hertfordshire finals over the
years at both Shenley and Haileybury.
In 2005, the club was accredited with Sport England's Clubmark, which is awarded to clubs
by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) when the club is able to demonstrate that it
meets the ECB's criteria as to playing programme; child protection; sports equity and
ethics and club management. Clubmark is an acknowledgement that we take these issues
seriously and that we are striving to provide a high quality and welcoming environment
for young participants in the sport.. In 2008, the club was re-accredited with Clubmark,
highlighting its continued commitment to developing and safeguarding young players.
St. Margaretsbury Cricket Club is also one of Hertfordshire's Identified Focus Clubs,
which means that the club is recognised by the County for its ability to deliver a
sustainable development programme and deliver a high standard of cricket within the
local community.
The Young Cricketers section of the club was re-structured in 2007 to allow the club
to introduce and recruit a number of new youngsters. Having successfully completed
this development, the club will now run four sides that compete in the Hertfordshire
League competitions at the U9, U11, U12, U13 and U15 age groups. These matches are
20 over matches which take place on week day evenings or Sun mornings. The Club
introduced an Academy XI in 2008, who play on a Sun, which will allows the youngsters
to compete in some senior matches.
Whilst the club does have a talented Young Cricketers section, we are always looking for
new talent and also has friendly matches for younger age groups.
